The University Park Club was founded in 1966 by over 40 dedicated area businessmen that wanted to give back to our community. Named after the University City subdivision that we represent, the University Park Lions have assisted our community in a variety of ways, from donating coats to needy children after Hurricane Katrina, helping school children with purchasing classroom supplies and field trips, improvements to our playgrounds and parks, providing food baskets to needy families, and being generous supporters of our State's 2 projects (the Eye Foundation and the Children's Camp).
At one time, our Lions Home was located on W.Esplanade Ave across from AC Alexander Elementary School, where it serverd as a community center for weddings, political meetings, haunted houses, fund raiser dinners, bingos, and more. The Home was sold to a local church to serve as a meeting hall for their CYO, auxillary clubs, and continues to serve as a community center for many organizations meetings. Our club has also been a sponsor for many other community service clubs including Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops.
Additonally, Our club was associated with a Lioness Club and a Leo Club that had its members hold several zone, district, and state level positions. Over the years, we migrated many of these members into active members of our Lions Club, as a means to centralize our efforts to follow the Lions motto of "We Serve".
The University Park Lions Club serves as the home club of Past District Governors Joe Maggiore Jr., Bob Williams, Bryan Foret, and also is the home club of Immediate Past District Governor Anthony Fregosi. Many of our members also continue to serve in zone, district, and state offices, as well as serve on the boards of both the Eye Foundation and the Children's Camp.
